Idols Are Still Made Of Stone
Don’t throw your phone away, but maybe you ought to think about it. According to the Bible idols were objects made by men and sold as portals to give people access to different gods.
Some cultures like Athens had hundreds of gods, in fact they created an idol to the unknown god just in case they missed one. Does that mean that all things made from stone are idols?
Of course not. Men carved stone to build houses, tools, wheels, and many others items that were not idols. The Jews made alters to God with stone and used stones as weapons and carved
them into bowls. It was easy to recognize an idol in those days, but you may not recognize many of the idols today.
Idols are still made of stone, in Silicon Valley. Yes, much of what they do is create idols. Just think about it for a minute. All of those gadgets, games, smart phones, and
computers have become idols and the makers of those devices know it! They don’t care about your soul. They only care about keeping you interested for the next newest thing so they can
make more and more money. Those devices have taken control over not just our children, who have to have more and the newest release coming out, but adults too. I’m writing this
article on a train and everyone on the train is either wearing headphones connected to their phones or browsing the internet on their electronic devices. I used to think “what would Jesus
do if he came into our houses and found whole families just sitting in front of a TV staring at it?” Our minds just blank taking in everything Hollywood could muster up for us. The
world has its grip on us and we don’t even know it or we don’t even care.
Stop and think about it. If these are in fact idols what do you think God’s response will be? Look at the Old Testament and how God reacted. Are we willing to take the chance
that God will not react today like He did then? After all God is the same yesterday, today and forever! We use these idols to entice kids to come to Church! “Come to church and
someone will win a door prize…it’s an idol!” “You can play with idols for 30 minutes then we will have church for 30 minutes.” Sound bad? Or does it just sound silly? You
better be sure…the consequences are great!
God’s Word has not changed. We can win them if we submit to the Lord and wait in His presence till the Holy Spirit has filled us and anointed us with power. There is no
substitute. There is no substitute for the Holy Spirit. We must live a life like Christ and spend those nights in prayer in order to keep the anointing on our lives. There is no
substitute. Are you willing to do it His way?
